Making Presentations
Making Presentations - Put Forth Your IdeasPresentations are a form of communicating ideas to a group of people. Making presentations is a skill that has to be mastered over time. A presentation may be formal, like a project presentation, or informal , like a fun presentation at a friends' reunion. Whatever be the situation, an effective presentation is sure to turn the crowd towards you. Presentations are one of the best methods to persuade a crowd to act or go according to one's ideas. Presentations can be visual presentations, speech presentations, or graphic presentations. In the first case, the subject displays the object of the presentation and goes about his presentation, giving a first hand view and experience of the object under consideration. In the second case, the speaker just talks about the object, that is, he describes the object, and talks about it. This presentation is effective only if the person is an expert speaker. This is because people tend to believe what they see rather than what they hear, so the speaker has to have the skills required to make up for the absence of the material object. The third presentation is a graphic presentation, which is done using tools A simulation of the object under consideration is done, and it is put in the form of visual effects, as in the case of powerpoint presentations. In powerpoint presentations, the speaker develops a series of slides regarding the object, and goes through each of them slowly, gradually explaining his viewpoint. This is an effective method of presentation because it not only rouses the curiosity of the audience of what is to come in the next slide, but also keeps them engrossed since it involves visual presentation. An example for a presentation would be the financial strategy of a company made by the CEO of the company. Consider a company that is facing a serious problem of bad marketing. The board of directors have convened to resolve the problem. The CEO of the company must propose the financial strategy of the company for the forthcoming year resolving the marketing problem. While making a presentation, it must always be kept in mind that a good presentation will result in an effective decision. In such a scenario, the CEO must plan his presentation as follows. The first slide must be the problem definition. Here, he discusses the problem in simple language so that the audience would be clear about the basic problem. The next slide could be the factors influencing the problem. These could include various factors like company goodwill, peer competition, etc. The next slide could describe a few proposed solutions for resolving the problem. The next few slides could discuss the positive and negative aspects of the proposed solutions and ways to overcome them. Following that can be a conclusive slide where the CEO chooses a plan out of his proposed solutions and gives the reason for his choice. The final slide could be a summary of the chosen plan and the future work to be carried out in the direction of the chosen plan. This kind of a presentation would be simple yet effective in demonstrating the ideas of a person.
For making presentations, there are various tools used. The most frequently used is the powerpoint presentation, combined with a projector that renders the image from the computer on to a larger screen which would be visually more comfortable for a large audience. |
